If they’re going to bring it to console it’s got to be more than an afterthought too. Starbreeze’s issues began back in 2018 when its newly released zombie title, Overkill’s The Walking Dead, majorly underperformed in sales. The deal goes beyond the initial release of Payday 3 to include up to 18 months of games-as-a-service support, similar to what Starbreeze has done (and continues to do) with Payday 2 (opens in new. If Payday 3 is to have any chance of success, these developers desperately need a new engine, especially after the buggy trash fires that were Raid WWII and the Walking Dead game.
